Evaluation.

For this assignment we had 6 weeks to create a BBC 2 Ident in groups. To do this me, Molly, Sammy, Tisha and Danie had to do our own roles. Unfortunately not everyone participated in their own roles. Molly and me both came into college on our days of to finish making the number two so that it was ready for the upcoming wednesday so that we could re-shoot. Molly's part to play was team leader and i was the editor, although these were our roles we both took on everyone else's roles. Molly and i both did session were we filmed  on our own, we both found out that it was a lot of effort that needed to go into creating this Ident, and at times it did seem like the pair of us were doing all the work.
Sammy's job was to be the prop designer, however all she just recorded me and Molly creating the number 2.
When it came to shooting the video, we were issued with a small flip camera, and a cambo camera stand, lights, a table, skittles,  a cloth, and then number 2 which was created. The reason why we shot in the studio was because we thought that it was the best place to shoot, also it gave out the right amount of light that we needed. Also that if we needed to change the lighting it would be quick and easy to move.
We developed our ideas from the first week. We all thought that dropping the number 2 into a pile of skittles would give a nice and colorful effect when the skittles when flying in to different directions. Throughout the weeks we were experimenting using different props, setting the camera at different angles and messing around with the lights to see which clip came out best.
Once we had found out what was best for us to shoot the video, we went out and brought 5 bags of skittles (spilt the money equally). We found out that doing a test shoot we would need around 4/5 bags to give it the effect we wanted. Once we had done this me and Molly then started to create the number 2. We both took it in turns to cut out a number 2 because it was quite difficult and hurt our hands. We both created the number two in college by using foam board, paper mashe, newspaper and paint. Molly and I both came in on a Friday to paper mashe the number two so that it was ready for Monday so that we could do the back and then start to paint it. We used 3 layers of paint and after each layer we went into the toilet and used the hand dryer to dry it so that is was quicker. We completed the number 2 by the end of Monday so that it was ready for Wednesday when we were re mashe-shooting. When me and Molly were paper mache and painting the number 2 the rest of the team members didn't offer to participate!
During us making the number 2 sammy filmed little sections of us making the number 2.
After doing all of this me and Molly went into the studio to re-shoot. After doing this we downloaded it to the computer, and then started to edit.
Overall, i am quite happy with the finished outcome. However some of the group members could have participated a bit more.

Editing

Today me and Molly edit the movie, to edited the clip we used 'final cut pro'. Firstly we had to drag our clip into final cut pro, and then we 'renderder' it so that it would play. After rendering the clip we got rid of the audio, and to do this we had to go onto 'modify' and then down to 'link' and then this was able to let us click on the audio and then press delete to get rid of it.  We then had to slow the moive down and reverse it, so do to this we went onto 'modify' then down to 'speed' and then a box popped up and we clicked 'revers' ad changed the speed from 100% to 50%. We then needed to cut the clip so we went to the cut icon on the right hand side, and then clicked onto the part that we wanted to cut, and preset delete so then we were left with the part of the clip we wanted.
After doing this we decided to add another video to make it longer and it give it more of an effect. To do this we had to drag the video we wanted into 'final cut pro' and then we slowed it down they same way as before. We also cut the clip to were we wanted it to. After doing this we had to put a transformation (dissolve) into the video so that it didnt jump from one clip to another. We then added a sound clip to it so that it gave a better effect (Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head). We downloaded the song of youtube using youtube converter, after we had downloaded this we dragged it into 'Final cut pro' and then we used the 'cut' tool to cut the song to were we wanted it to play from. Then we faded the song out to make the video as a whole look a lot better.
Finally, we had finished the video and then we exported it using 'quicktime player'

However the first time we edited it, we done exactly the same and then we saved the video once we had edited it and added the sounds and transformations, but then we forgot to export it using 'Quicktime player' and therefore it resulted into us having to start from the beginning. Due to us making the video first it we knew exactly what we needed to do.

Below is our final BBC 2 Ident video.

Creating Our Number 2

When creating the number 2 me and Molly used two foam boards. Out of the 2 foam boards we were able to cut out 9 number twos, we then stuck them together using the sticky back of the foam board. Me and Molly took it in turns to cut out the number 2's due to it because difficult and it started to hurt our hands. We used foam boards because it was a bit heavier and would give a bigger effect when being dropped into the skittles.
Materials we used:
2 Foam Boards
1 Knife
1 Ruler
1 Backboard (so we wouldn't mark or scratch the table)

After doing this we both had to file the number 2 down so that it was roughly the same size. To do this we went to '3D Design' and asked to use some sandpaper. After sanding it down we had paper mashe the number 2 but we run out of time to paper mache the back of it. This was so that it would fill in the other little gaps, and make it easier to paint.
Due to running out of time me and Molly came to college in out own time and paper mashed the back of the number 2. Then at college on Monday it was dried, so we deiced to paint it, we put 3 layers of paint on the number 2. After painting each layer we went into the toilets and used the hand dryer to dry it of so that we could then paint the next layer.
Materials used:
2 Sanding Blocks
2 Paint Brushes
Paint

Once the number 2 was dry we deiced to re-shoot. We went into the studio and got a table and cloth so that we could put the skittles onto the cloth so that when we dropped the number two onto the skittles it wouldn't make such a loud noise and would make it easier for the skittles to fly everywhere. We both then sorted the lighting out so that there was a spot light on the table were the skittles were and were the number two was going to be dropped. To shoot this we used a 'Flip Cam' and put it on a cambo camera stand (which is shown below).

Me and molly both took it in turns of shooting the video so that we both had a go at dropping the number 2 into the skittles and also that it would give us a variety of shoots to choose from when it comes to choosing out final video and editing it. After shooting the video we then uploaded each individual video to the computer and then saved it to out memory sticks.

Skittles Idea

Our final idea for the BBC 2 ident, we have expanded and developed out idea of dropping a white cardboard number 2 in to a box of skittles. This is so that the multlicoloured skittles would shoot of in all different directions creating a better effect. As a group we have decided that from experimenting on the idea for the skittles '2'. We have come up with a better idea of still dropping the number 2 into the skittles but then we are going to colour co-ordinate the skittles and places them around the cardboard 2. Once the cardboard 2 has been removed we will have a number 2 make out of skittles.

After experimenting we found out that by taking away each individual coloured skittle would make it harder to edit the final video. However we have decided to drop the number 2 into the skittles and then colour co-ordinate the '2'. We all found this idea more effective and that it gave a bigger dramatic effect.
Below are some test shots that we done last week.

Our BBC 2 Ident Ideas

Idea 1: Out first idea we thought about making a number 2 out of white cardboard and painting a cardboard box white and filling the bottom of it with skittles. After we have finished this the number 2 will be dropped into the box of skittles.
The idea of dropping the number 2 into a box of skittles is so that the force from the number 2 will send some of the skittles in different directions to make a more dramatic effect. By doing this a range of colours will be going everywhere and would catch the viewers eyes because the sweets will stand out a lot more due to everything else will be white. To make this idea work, we are looking at buying 5-10 bags of skittles to fill the bottom of the box. When editing the video i will be making it slower, so it builds up tension and gives more of an effect.

Idea 2: For our second idea, Danie came up with an idea of making a human 2. To complete this we are looking at having around 15-20 people to form the shape 2 on the floor. Before everyone takes their positions for the number 2, we will be marking spots on the floor in which the people will be standing. The marks will help the people walk into their place without any confusion.
Everyone that will be participating will walk into their places and stay there for 5-10 seconds and then walk away. This will be filmed from the room CS103. We are using this room because it is directly above were we will be filming it.

Idea 3: For our final idea, we will be making a plastic number 2 and then we will be filling it with water. Once it is mostly full with water we will be adding red food colouring to the water. We will be doing this by using a pap-pet and placing droplets of food colouring in different places around the number 2 so that it will spread faster and so that it will give a better effect.
We will be making the colour change look effective by doing this we will place the plastic 2 on a white background so that the number 2 will go from white to red. Also by recording this the droplets will be making contact with the water in slow motion, this is so it will give a more detailed effect.
When doing this we will have to take care of the food colouring and the white background in the studio because we dont want to spill the food colouring and stain the floor. To prevent this happened we will put a white towel underneath the number 2. This way the background will still be white and we get the lighting we need.

BBC2 Ident Ideas.

For this assignment we have been asked to create a BBC2 advert. We have been given 6 weeks to complete this task. For this task we will be working in groups and each individual in the group will be set there own role.  There are several different roles to be taken on such as:

Camera man, (Danie Jones)
Lighting, (Tisha Hawkins)
Prop styles, (Sammy Bebbington)
Editor, (Jordon Axford - me)
Set designer, (Molly Burton)

I have been given the role as the 'Editor' therefore one we have shot the video i will be putting it together and adding music and different animations to the video. However we have all been given the different roles, we will each help out if and when were needed with the other sections to completing out video. Decided by all of us we have came to a decision that Molly will be the team leader, she will make sure that everything is on track, and that everyone is up to date with there contribution to the assignment.

We will be filming the ident in the studio and to shoot the video we will be using a flip video camera, and all the footage will be edited using iMovie or FInal Cut Pro. We should shoot the idnet so it will last between 10-30seconds. We must make the sound ambient in nature and appropriate to the theme that we have chosen.

To give us an idea of what we could do we went onto youtube and looked at different BBC2 ident videos from previous years. This then brought us to the conclusion of getting a box of skittles on the floor in the studio and then creating a number 2 and dropping it into the box. When editing it on the computer we would slow it down so it looked like the skittles were moving in slow motion.

Evaluation

In this assignment we were asked to created a stop motion video, also we had to research different videos to give us an idea of what we could do.
We were asked to create a blogger account were we were able to upload pieces of work, and research ideas that we had looked at. After we had done this we were asked to look at different stop motion videos on the internet, to give us a brief idea of what we could do, we had to then upload the ones we viewed and write about what we likes about it. We then went into the studio as a class and done a few stop motions to give us an idea of how to use all the equipment and to show us how to do the lighting in the studios in case we wanted to do our final stop motion in the studio. To do this we had to set the camera and lighting to how we wanted and then we set the background using cloths, then we got people to move slightly as we took a picture and so on. After we had shot these, we uploaded the images to the computers and put them onto I movie where we were able to change the speed that the images went at, and we could put our own music to it to make it more appealing. After this we then shot our own videos, i chose to do mine in the studio. I set the camera and lighting up, and then set the background to how i wanted it, and go some people out of my class to be in the shots to make my video work.
While shooting my images some how they were erased from the camera, so then i had dropped behind on my work, and it was quite difficult to catch up. This also meant that i had to re-shoot and therefore i had to take people away from doing their own work to help me complete mine. So if i have to do this assignment again i will back up my work so that it doesn't get lost.
In conclusion, during this assignment i learnt about time management, due to having to put all of my images together and changed the speed they went at. Also i learnt how to use a tripod, when shooting i used a tripod so that my camera didn't move and there wasn't camera shake when i had take the images. I also learnt research skills and how to comment on other peoples work, saying what i like and i think they could improve on being set this assignment again.
